Exeter Millenium Restoration Fund Recital and Reception

On August 20th, the current owners hosted a very successful Musical Event in the Music Room in aid of the Exeter Cathedral Millenium Appeal.

Graham recounted to the 133 invited guests the history of the building and our subsequent restoration of the Music Room, and then we were treated to a short organ recital given by Andrew Millington, the Cathedral organist, on our newly restored organ which was the first time that it had been played in public. Everyone agreed that the organ sounded superb and that Andrew's brilliant playing showed it to be perfect for the size of the room. One of the choristers from the cathedral, Sebastian, played the 'cello while the guests were assembling and then sang two solos beautifully, accompanied by Andrew on the piano.

A marvellous buffet supper followed and then theChairman of the Millenium Appeal spoke about the fundraising required to complete the project. The evening was brought to a rousing conclusing by the Dean of Exeter, Jonathan Meyrick who sang " The Lost Chord" by Sullivan accompanied by the organ and a hilarious rendition of Flanders and Swann's " Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud" to rapturous applause!
